Let us hear from you! What do you think about Yoko Ono's One Woman Show?

Tue Oct 14 15:19:31 US/Pacific 1997 On Saturday I threw open my window and napped. I awoke to the buzz of a fly cyclone hovering above my checkered floor. There were many and they were mating, I think. I realized that my bed was a boat to your future and I was sort-of drifting in a pool. And the flies were miming, in perfect human form. And so I laughed as hard as brocoli. Christopher Jordan (Gazebo50@hotmail.com)

Wed May 14 7:28:16 US/Pacific 1997 I once had a friend, his name was Terry H., we lived in Downey, CA. WellTerry loved flies and he would catch them and sometimes he too would put them on his shirt with a little bit of superglue and then one day he put one on a small piece of paper in the shape of a very small airplane and that fly flew around and around. Terry stopped playing with flies when someone placed a fly in his sandwidge. POOR TERRY! POOR FLIES! CISCO (cisco@sancristobal.podernetcom)

Fri Dec 20 20:02:04 1996 whether this is the "official" moca web site or not, i think these folks did a good job. yoko's piece is fun and amusing. frankly, living in this world we can use all the good humor we can find, wherever we can find it. thank you, yoko. andrea (74131.32@compuserve.com)
Thu Dec 5 22:30:38 1996 Friends,Netizens and Critics, All things, good and bad, must come to an end, hence,it is time for me to put down the poison pen and fly off into the sunset. I am hopeful that those of you I offended with my "bafflegab" will accept my apology and know that I meant no harm. That is all. As always, stay off of my pile. sincerely, Buzz Stickwafer ()
Tue Dec 3 1:43:33 1996 Just another reminder that the real MOCA web site is at www.moca-la.org. x ()
Mon Dec 2 23:22:59 1996 "We the People" By the way,the word is "bilious" not "bileous". Which end do you think/write with? your new pen-pal, Buzz Stickwafer ()
Mon Dec 2 22:52:04 1996 Dearest "We", First of all, I would like to thank A.Rieger for his/her words regarding racism and bigotry. I abhor all forms of racism, hate, discrimination etc. I am hopeful that those who view this page will not be offended by my contributions and recognize the spirit in which they are intended. I am curious as to what it is,exactly, about my "rants" that smacks of racism. How can you accuse me of being a racist when you know nothing about my race, creed, gender, color or what boat I may have just gotten off of? By throwing these labels around haphazardly you are revealing your lack of creativity. It is apparent that you are an illiterate fop that has to rely on tired cliches and crude anatomical references. I must say that mouth/anus bit was brilliant! Top notch comedy. As for art school, I managed to do pretty well and continue to do so. Life is good! Turn off the Depeche Mode, get some sun and let me know when you can lift your own weight. Until then, Stay off of my pile. Have a safe and Joyous Holiday Season! love, Buzz Stickwafer ()
Mon Dec 2 13:07:37 1996 People, As a casual observer I think it should be noted that Mr.Stickwafer, as silly as he may be, has said nothing that is racist or bigoted. Misuse of these words is as offensive,ill-conceived and far more dangerous than anything Buzz has said. Just something to think about. A.Rieger ()
Sun Dec 1 1:49:49 1996 Can anybody tell me in which museum in L.A. (in Westwood I believe) The Dinner Party of Judy Chicago took place and, more important, if the exibition still is there? I need to know before monday 9 a.m. Central European Time (=midnight PST). Thank you. Jurjen Roerdinkholder (casper@tref.nl)
Fri Nov 29 10:30:54 1996 Hey Buzz Schtickwaffler: I just heard from someone that you're a frustrated artist who got kicked out of art school because you didn't know the difference between your anus and your mouth. It's also apparent to anyone reading this page that you don't have a life, and are trying to convince yourself that someone actually cares what you think, by dominating this web page with your wise cracks, put-downs and sarcastic bafflegab. Try to contribute rather than detract. You might find out what art means, and you'll have the beginnings of a life. You won't have to mock people and hide behind a pseudonym because you lack vertebrae! But most importantly, we won't have to read your inane, ill-conceived, feeble-minded, obtuse, racist, bigoted, sexist, patrician, bileous diatribes against those of us who think with their brains rather than their posteriors, and care enough to leave our thoughts (and REAL names) here for all to see. Take care. Love, Everyone you've trashed here We the People ()

Wed Nov 27 21:40:08 1996 In MY world Yoko is the greatest. There is no accounting for taste in art. Some people even like Picasso. We are all little snowflakes. virginia (vfoao0ia@csun.edu)
Sat Nov 23 18:49:51 1996 The REAL Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles website is now online. The address is: www.moca-la.org The information is much more accurate and there's much more of it than in this fake Yoke one. David Bradshaw (lacy@directnet.com)
Sat Nov 23 17:58:20 1996 Quite a yoke, indeed, Yoko, but what happened to the real MOCA website? This is very convincing- even to the point of fooling people into posting e-mail to MOCA curators. But I'm not fooled- I've seen the design of the real MOCA website and this ain't it. I hope you DO get a show at MOCA someday! David Bradshaw (lacy@directnet.com)
Fri Nov 22 15:24:58 1996 To Julie Lazar, Curator Thank you for your wonderful presents and good advice. I am very sorry for not sending you a letter. Thu Nov 21 20:12:21 1996 Tick! I dig your shtick! POWER TO THE TICK!!! Fondly, Buzz Stickwafer ()
Thu Nov 21 19:52:36 1996 NPR ran a piece on Morning Edition today about how the Chinese have annual Kill All Rats, -Mosquitos, and most importantly, Kill All Flies, "patriotic campaigns." One luxury hotel employee broke down in hysterics talking about how rats and flies were just plain evil. I can't escape the nagging thought that all this is related somehow to Yoko and her mad fly campaign. Is our sovreignty being compromised in the name of some dubious art project? Think hard on this, citizens. Don't forget to sign up for rat trap and fly paper distribution duty on your way out. Yours in rampant paranoia, The Tick (Mao@imperialpalace.com.rade)
Wed Nov 20 21:01:15 1996 Joe Mueller, For your information: If you want duplicity, stand next to the business end of one of your cows and take a picture. Until then, let your husband do the shopping. love, Buzz Stickwafer ()

Wed Nov 20 10:04:20 1996 Why don't we stop the epistemiliological bickering and ask "When's the last time these pages were updated?" 'cause I sent my fly in two days ago, and frankly, I wanna see it here, despite the Deconstructionists. Visit the page: http://www.enterprise.ca/~domenic/penguin5.html and don't miss http://www.enterprise.ca/~domenic/accordion.html Enjoy! Domenic Amatucci (domenic@enterprise.ca)

Thu Nov 14 12:24:31 US/Pacific 1996 Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus and hopefully he will bring you some glasses and some taste. In what world is Yoko a great artist? Happy holidays. Buzz Stickwafer ()
Thu Nov 14 12:00:54 US/Pacific 1996 Hey Chipster, Hate is a very strong word. I dislike Yoko's art. I come to this site from time to time for comic relief. I like to poke a little fun and hope to get someone bugged enough to respond. Nice job chip, someday you might grow up and become a fly yourself. Until then, stay off of my pile. Buzz Stickwafer ()
Wed Nov 13 12:52:32 US/Pacific 1996 Yoko Ono is one of the world's great artists. I enjoyed the one-woman show very much. The problem is, I have spotted a fly and I don't know how to send a picture. What shall I do? Virginia (vfoao0ia@csun.edu)
Wed Nov 13 10:35:24 US/Pacific 1996 Hey Buzz, For someone who seems to hate this site so much, you sure spend a lot of time here. Perhaps you are just the kind of fly you describe. But hey, you should meet up with one of Yoko's flies, get a new scent, and start enjoying life. Chip Jones ()
Wed Nov 13 8:47:37 US/Pacific 1996 Dear "E", Catch a clue and get some help. Flies are not angels, they are airborne carriers of disease and filth. Calling flies angels is like putting frosting on a turd. Thank you very much. Also, mix in some consonants. Love, Buzz Stickwafer ()
Tue Nov 12 21:44:32 US/Pacific 1996 flies are my guardian angelsÉ É (bluesnakes@aol.com)
Tue Nov 12 20:09:31 US/Pacific 1996 Very enjoyable exhibit from Yoko. Read about it in today's L.A. Times. Thank you, but can't help but think about "The Fly" movies! That's ok, because like the original "The Fly," where the trapped fly screams "Help! Help me!," I now think of John's song "Help!" Kevin Sutlick (hybuddy@AOL.com)
Tue Nov 12 19:37:19 US/Pacific 1996 If all the flies in Australia were scented, boy would this country smell sweet! To all those you think Yoko should take up where John left off,get off your arse and do something about it yourself. If we all act as decent human beings, and influence those we live with, in the end we'll be saved Leigh Scott (lscott@agric.wa.gov.au)
Tue Nov 12 10:38:09 US/Pacific 1996 How do you get a fly close enough to your nose to sniff it without inhaling it? Lydia (htrae@psnw.com)
Tue Nov 12 8:08:23 US/Pacific 1996 This really gave me a buzzz! DAVID DAVIS ()
Sat Nov 9 20:27:18 US/Pacific 1996 As a suiggestion I would like to mention that your home page does not tell its viewer what are current and future feature exhibitions. When I opened "Current Exhibition" only thing I could see were "plaza branch" and some special events. I think there is some room for improvement. Shuichi Sasaki (Shuichis@rad.net.id)
Sat Nov 9 12:42:28 US/Pacific 1996 I think Ms. Ono should figure out how to do the same thing for people that she did with the flies; that is, spray us with a pleasing scent that we could maintain for countless generations. We would all smell good (though there are some control issues involved with deciding what all your descendants should smell like) and in no time at all we would overthrow all the fragrance companies. Imagine, no more scented magazines. No more avoiding ninja fragrance testers at the mall. Rorie ()
Thu Nov 7 12:51:49 US/Pacific 1996 Hours are now listed! We've added a new section called General Information, where you can find the address, hours, and phone numbers. We will update the Calendar section very soon. Philip van Allen (phil@moca.org)
Sun Nov 3 19:09:20 US/Pacific 1996 Please bring this site up-to-date. Past information is of no use to me. I meet monthly with a group of seniors interested in the LA art scene, now & in the near future. You have nothing here after November 3, today. Lois Chaney (lchaney@bak2.lightspeed.net)

Fri Nov 1 15:41:45 US/Pacific 1996 I think that we all need to take a big step back and give ourselves a hug and shake. The world is cold and getting colder. Yoko is trying to bring us closer together. Like the flies in the jar, we all share the same air and the same destiny. Chaz, try to think before speaking. I like to believe that the good in someone takes up more space in the jar than the bad. Peace. Ted Liddy ()
Fri Nov 1 14:04:45 US/Pacific 1996 Dan, Did the cow sit on your head? What she is saying is If you have some influence you can slap anything on the wall, call it art and a large portion of the population will call you a genius. If I take a walk on a rainy day and leave my footprints in the mud is it art? Chaz Stutzman ()
Fri Nov 1 13:46:01 US/Pacific 1996 Dear Abbey, I can understand that you object to people bashing Yoko out of personal disrespect and the belief that it is her star status rather than talent that has enabled her to maintain such a high profile in the art world, but it's probably the main reason why I cannot support her work. Do you understand it? I'd like to hear a synopsis of what you feel she's trying to say. Convince me, 'cause I don't buy this. Milkman Dan (milkman@rad.balink.com)
Fri Nov 1 13:29:54 US/Pacific 1996 Dear Abbey, Koo koo ka choo. You are the walrus. Yoko is not an artist. Yoko is a manipulator of stuff. Stuff obviously includes your mind. love, Buzz Stickwafer ()
Fri Nov 1 12:48:14 US/Pacific 1996 I also would really like to see the hours posted here. I'm about to get on my bike and go over, and for all I know it could be closed. (The regular phone line has been busy for a half hour.) (Accsl@earthlink.net)

Wed Oct 30 9:35:03 US/Pacific 1996 the Yoko piece is EXCELLENT! genius work! one suggestion: puh-LEAZE put MOCA's hours, location, parking info and phone numbers somewhere on the site. (if its there, its well hidden.) BYE your friend mr. ebola ebola-man (ebola@paranoia.com)
Tue Oct 29 15:32:31 US/Pacific 1996 Now about flies... the other day, while eating a lite lunch outside, a fly nearly drowned in my friend's glass of lukewarm watery coke. It was kinda entertaining, when my friend flicked the fly out of the glass, and it flew away. Flies are reincarnated people afterall. cecilia (cecilia@rykodisc.com)
Tue Oct 29 15:28:12 US/Pacific 1996 the buzz of flies is either delightful when there are no thoughts in my head, or painful, when i try to hold onto one for dear life and not forget it. they eat shit, or at least i am told that they do. but then again, so do we all. david greenberg (dg@rykodisc.com)

Sun Oct 27 10:27:40 US/Pacific 1996 This is not a repsonse to the show, since I haven't seen it yet. This is about the web page. Sun Oct 27 1:17:54 US/Pacific 1996 Dear sir, I have just learned that your Kienholtz retrospective exhibition is about to close. Is this exhibit scheduled somewhere else in the US or abroad? Sincerly Yours Amirav Gordon Prof. Amirav Godon (amirav@md2.huji.ac.il)
Thu Oct 24 14:05:35 US/Pacific 1996 I'm back... the personal attacks on Yoko are going way too far. I can respect someone's opinion on her art, good or bad, but when they deliberately use her husband and her money against her... it's just disrespectful. She's been bashed enough for things she didn't do (you know what I'm talking about. Actually, not enough, but way too much. Unfortunately for such people who do this, Yoko can definately handle it. She is a strong and successful woman... and so are her flies... Abbey ()
Thu Oct 24 12:43:54 US/Pacific 1996 I am really tired and upset by these people who are constantly trashing Yoko's work. I think you people who think you know a lot about art and how to define it better come up with a much better definition quickly. The reason being that the people who understand and respect and love Yoko's art are the ones who are growing and developing their minds and souls while all the rest will be stuck. Abbey (JPRGirl@aol.com)
Sun Oct 20 12:33:25 US/Pacific 1996 Yoko! Too far to go to see your show in L.A Could you send somr scented flies over here? We need desperately inspiration! Rachel @ Varda Tel Aviv ISRAELa Rachel Shalita (rachelsh@netvision.net.il)
Fri Oct 18 15:25:13 US/Pacific 1996 I think Yoko is much better in the medium of music. She has a unique vocal style and songwriting style(s) that have been influential especially in the alternative rock scene. Her conceptual artwork seems kind of timid by comparison. I think she has been criticized and derided and bashed for too long. She is a strong person and a unique artist with integrity and chutzpah. ()
Fri Oct 18 14:33:03 US/Pacific 1996 This is not art. I am an illustrator. I have worked hard at my craft. I am offended by this load of hoo-ha. This woman cannot draw flys but her sure can. Buzz Stickwafer (Still bugged by this "show")
Tue Oct 15 15:03:39 US/Pacific 1996 Why do people keep defending this pretentious woman? She's not a great artist. She's not important. Her work is cute and clever, at best. It's juvenile adolescent stuff. Why do people elevate her to such high status now? Because she's been around for a long time and she knew the right people in the 60's? ()

I guess we should have expected it, but it is odd and surprising to see the strange, angry remarks people make about Yoko Ono. Funny how the most hostile comments never seem to have a signature. A few points should be made: * Yoko is not being paid for this work * Yoko was a recognized artist before she was involved with John Lennon * For a little background on Yoko Ono, see: http://www.artcommotion.com/Issue2/VisualArts/#Artist Philip van Allen -- Publisher, ArtCommotion (phil@artcommotion.com)
Mon Oct 14 8:46:52 US/Pacific 1996 IF we can't dare to reinvent what we see and experience, we are indeed doomed. True artistic freedom this is and we should respect it. Congrats to Yoko Shaman Artist!!! Artist in Texas ()
Sat Oct 12 17:52:13 US/Pacific 1996 Yoko is a bore and not worth anyone's time. All she did was marry a rock star so she could get his money and his fame. She didn't care about anything, except herself. She is a horrible example of a human being and a ridiculous spectacle at the age of 63. She is making a big fool of herself because she has no talent and no ideas. She ripped off the entire world by destroying the Beatles and John Lennon and she is the most stupid and crazy old woman and she is desperate, desperate for attention. Does she really need the money ??? Who cares about her desperate attempts to win people over. Yoko, take the world's advice and go away. ()
Sat Oct 12 16:14:31 US/Pacific 1996 Yoko's "instructions" come from an idea of Marcel Duchamp's from his notes for the Large Glass. One of the instructions he wrote was "Use a Rembrandt as an ironing board". She based her whole book of instructions, "Grapefruit", on this concept. ()
Fri Oct 11 22:53:13 US/Pacific 1996 youre gallery should have a children musem with children exhibit their art ()
Fri Oct 11 19:11:57 US/Pacific 1996 ...among the drops of rain on my window was a fly ... he couldn't hide ... my cat found him ... I seem to detect a pleasant odour mingling with the foul stench of my pussy's mouth ... perhaps this was a perfumed fly? ... Harley ()
Fri Oct 11 17:03:46 US/Pacific 1996 Yoko Ono will always be a celebrity because she married John Lennon. This does not mean that she is an important artist or has any real talent or has anything to say. She is a rich and famous media person who thrives on being rich and famous. Her whole persona thrives on self-promotion and myth making. All she seems to care about is getting more money and more fame. Why do people care or pay attention to her? She repeats her unoriginal ideas over and over again. She is a bad imitation of Andy Warhol and other NY artists like George Brecht, George Macuinas, and Yayoi Kusama. All she does and continues to do is copy other peoples art and get richer for it because she married a rock star who was a genius! Enough already. ()
Fri Oct 11 16:37:25 US/Pacific 1996 now is the time for all good to come to the aid of the known universe My mother used a variation of this typing exercise to check her hands & machine it went like this "now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the country" She was WWII, and decoded secret messages for the USNAVY . Flies have an amazing ability to survive. HIGHEST REGARDS to/from the artist(s)!!!!! aptpat@efn.org patricia cahill-mcleod (aptpat@efn.org)

Thu Oct 10 22:53:31 US/Pacific 1996 I dunno, maybe I'm just the right age to find this kind of interesting... ;) But I really do. I respect you, Yoko. These people who enjoy verbally attacking you disturb me. Oh well. Peace. ()
Thu Oct 10 16:52:04 US/Pacific 1996 Well, I think that Yoko should get political. If you are homeless, hungry, drug addicted, being battered or oppressed in any other of the many ways that are possible in the 1990's, in this- the wealthiest nation in the world- knowing about all the time and energy that was spent about Yoko's flies is just one more example of late 20th century elitist, timewasting, trivial and stupid ways to goof off and avoid reality. Revolution, NOW! ()
Thu Oct 10 16:38:21 US/Pacific 1996 Why do people need something new? I think Yoko is yummy. buzzkill ()
Thu Oct 10 12:38:15 US/Pacific 1996 Okay - What was that for? All words are not verbs! Do you feel that John's a fly? - Is he watching you, as in "a fly on the wall". I'm not particularily dense - and I have an open mind - but I prefer art that either makes one feel an emotion because of it's intensity/beauty, or teaches us something about ourselves or our society. You have power by just having tremendous exposure... why not do as John did and use it to say something... well... relevant! Monique Oesch ()
Thu Oct 10 11:40:35 US/Pacific 1996 I thought that we are now in way into the '90s. Didn't minimalism first emerge in the '60s ? Been there, done that..Is this the movement we seem to be stuck in for the next 20 years ? Deborah Kerly (dlk2994@garnetacns.fsu.edu)
Thu Oct 10 8:01:21 US/Pacific 1996 look forwward to review in 'fly monthly' Derek Bell (ccea@nics.gov.uk)

Wed Oct 9 20:36:40 US/Pacific 1996 The FLY that I olfacted was definitely wearing 'Passion'. Is this an ONO or a TAYLOR FLY? Fly Spy (John_Gidcombe@msn.com)
Wed Oct 9 8:17:06 US/Pacific 1996 Flies sustain themselves by vomiting, sucking and buzzing around the business end of many large animals. Most flies will tell you that they cannot pass up a pile of shit with out stopping off for a quick look-see. Enough said. Buzz Stickwafer ()
Wed Oct 9 2:12:13 US/Pacific 1996 what do you think about Minimalism? grama (grassist@mbox.vol.it)
Wed Oct 9 1:39:42 US/Pacific 1996 I have always loved Yoko's ability to make a statment and to not take herself to seriously at the same time showing wit and a sense of humor, I am also amazed at the strong reaction that some people seem to have to her work, If people don't like her work there welcome to buzzoff Frederick Esp (ericzen@theriverr.com)
Tue Oct 8 20:41:48 US/Pacific 1996 So, what is it with these insects anyway? I am not sure but the exhibit was amusing and clever. But profound - hardly. Anyway, I suppose, what the hell is profound anyway?? So Yoko - you continue to be interesting and worth visiting with. Tony Diniz (creche@inforamp.net)
Tue Oct 8 19:08:10 US/Pacific 1996 Seems like another case of an ego gone wild. I've seen much nore interesting art done with the regular household fly, but it was not based on the artist's bodily volume. Yoko, I'm sure you are interesting and intelligent. Use your energy and media attention to do something that can creatively help people. Looking forward to the next PDA (Public Display of Art). john (jindalecio1@rachel.edu)
Tue Oct 8 17:45:58 US/Pacific 1996 Really?? Give me a break, this is 1996, Yoko needs to move on. Maybe she should marry the local Amway Saleman! This stunk! ()
Tue Oct 8 17:01:45 US/Pacific 1996 Why bother repeating an idea that the artist had over 20 years ago? It was a fine concept then, but this is 1996. If Yoko can't seem to come up with something new and interesting, perhaps she should refrain from expressing herself as she is in danger of overexposure as an artist. Michael Tice (TiceM@aol.com)

Tue Oct 8 14:37:32 US/Pacific 1996 Now that I have had a chance to see all the exhibits, I can honestly say that I will befriend all flies that I see, and so will Smoky the Big Gray Cat! Flies Rule!(?) Um, ya. Cool show I wanna see it again, and again, and again. I wish I had my fly report picture to show the whole world, but I wasn't thinking at the time of the sighting, neither was Smoky the Big Gray Cat! Sat Sep 21 8:38:05 US/Pacific 1996 Up North, flies come indoors in the Fall because they seem to know sub-zero temps will soon greet them outdoors. I haven't been able to smell any yet as they're congregating on the ceiling and I am only 4'11" tall. Marsha Ewing (mewing@up.net)
